There is an uprise in controversial issues about gay marriages in the recent years. The society has become more liberal and accepting towards gay marriages. In public, we have become more open and we would not stare with such disatastefullook when we see gays or lesbians around as it has become a social norm. Recently, an anglican church put up a banner to allow acceptance of homosexuality and as such, it created a much discussed topic as it seems to break the code of normality.
Before this, the topic was taboo and was whispered behind closed doors. And without the proper understanding we can see that it was not well understood. This was when i learnt communications could play apart in it. This week we leart about the different stages. Often as it is. It reaches the circumscribing stage and there is nor termination stage as marriage wasn’t legal. Could gay marriages be what is necessary to show that that gay marriages is not feasible as consequently it will play an active role in affecting the economic stability of a country due to the downward spiral of heterosexual marriages

This taboo topic has now been liberated by many countries around the world. Based on our rights, freedom of choice, governments are not opening this option to people who struggle with their sexual orientation. However, from a religious point of view, i’m pretty sure GOD created Adam and Eve to multiply the lands. Population of the country falls as homosexual couples are unable to bear children. The impression it gives to other countries would be affected drastically. I believe that no country wants to be defined as a gay country.
Comment by Darryl November 1, 2009 @ 9:26 amWith the changes of living style in the society and freedom of choices given to each and every, controversial issues about gay marriages have rose through the years. However, i think that this should not be a major problem as we should have our choice in what kind of lifestyle we want to adopt and have. On the other hand, if gay marriages continue to rise, there will be a problem of slowing population. I agree with the above comment that no country would want to be defined as a gay country but however, it should be be forcefully stopped by the government.

Homosexual-marriages are not able to fulfil these criteria so as to increase country’s population thus not encouraged.
However, homosexuality is not a new idea or something in fashion only in this era. It has been around for centuries and there were societies that accepted gays provided that they procreate. Thus, why not allow them to do their own ways?
Comment by huiying November 1, 2009 @ 1:43 pmI believe our PM has commented on the issue of Singapore accepting gay marriages and the like. And unfortunately, or fortunately, whichever side you are on, the answer is no. And the reason being that Singapore is still a conservative country. Without a doubt, Singapore is definitely still rather strong based in Eastern values and cultures of being close-minded and unable to readily accept new and novel ways of life. Gay, being one of these ways. I believe legalizing gay marriages and the like has little or close to no effect on a country’s economic stability. Why so? Because legalizing or not legalizing gay marriages isn’t gonna turn gays straight. They’ll just keep it private. And the states in US and Europe who have legalized, they don’t seem to be falling behind economically.
Comment by Marvin Kyle November 1, 2009 @ 1:43 pmDue to the conservative zealots, our gay counterparts are unable to have their rights legalized. I strongly believe that Singapore and the rest of the world should move on from this taboo of homosexuality and give our gay friends the rights they duely deserve in this world. More pressing issues like the economy and the environment are at hand, and its high time we move on and redirect our focus from homosexuality debates to the former.
Comment by Ben Chew November 1, 2009 @ 2:21 pmi personally believe gay marriages should be allowed. we shouldnt be selfish and take away their happiness should they be happier that way. as a country, we should learn to accept that and move on with it.
Comment by Bryan November 1, 2009 @ 4:46 pmAll this prejudice against gays probably stems from the time when religion and politics were one and the church (or whatever facility is central to the religion you subscribe to) controlled the government(s). They were scared of what they did not understand, and since the bible (and a host of other religious texts) define marriage as a “union of a man and a woman” then any other combination was deemed to be unholy and outlawed. Now, religion is a separate institution from the government, and now we look at everything pragmatically and now as “how God intended it to be” (as though we all know what He REALLY wants of us). So why can’t we look at gay marriage pragmatically? If two guys found love in each other, then good for them, I say. They’re luckier than most people ever will be.
Comment by Chander November 6, 2009 @ 8:58 amhomosexual is such a taboo due to the heavy influence of religions.
if you take a religion mindset out of someone, probably the world would be a more acceptable place.. but only if the sun rises from the west.
maybe we shd just not fight and let it be..
